Narrated Annotation Demo

The Narrated Annotation Demo showcases TTS narration in En Parlant~. We selected and hosted a set of pre-made ElevenLabs audio clips to give you a feel for what narrated chess study sounds like — no setup, no API keys, no configuration. The clips aren’t packaged with the application due to licensing, so you’ll need an internet connection to stream them from our server — which you probably have if you’re reading this and downloading the app.

  1. Click the Narrated Demo card on the home screen
  2. Choose a language and a voice (male or female)
  3. Step through the game with arrow keys or the move list
  4. Every move and annotation is spoken aloud as you go

The demo is available in nine languages, each with fully translated chess vocabulary. We may add more if there is demand for it. The full app supports many more — see the TTS Providers Overview for the complete list.

Piece names, chess terms like “check” and “checkmate”, and all annotations are spoken in the selected language.

Each language has two voices:

  • Daniel — male voice
  • Lily — female voice

Both voices were recorded with ElevenLabs and sound natural, clear, and expressive.

The demo game is not a famous masterpiece — it’s an amateur (me) playing against an engine, with AI-generated annotations. If you’re a chessmaster, please try not to cringe! We wanted our own content, license-free, to showcase the narration across different types of commentary — opening ideas, tactical moments, strategic plans, and the final combination.

If you’re a chess instructor, this might spark an idea: imagine your own annotated games narrated aloud for your students. We’re exploring whether there’s demand for that kind of plugin — see Potential Enhancements for the ideas we have in mind.

The demo audio and PGN files are hosted on the En Parlant~ CDN and streamed on demand. Each move’s audio clip loads individually, so playback starts immediately without downloading the entire game’s audio upfront.

The purpose of the demo is to let you experience TTS narration instantly. If you like what you hear and want to narrate your own games, you’ll need to set up a TTS provider. The TTS Providers Overview walks you through choosing a provider and configuring it — the whole process takes a few minutes.
